Jihan Thomas

Jihan Thomas has been holding a paintbrush since she was able to brush her teeth. Getting in trouble for painting too long in kindergarten was a key giveaway. Painting, drawing, and ceramics have become her mediums in which she expresses themes of culture, gender, womanhood, and society. Jihan has studied at Morgan State University as a painting major and also at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. She came to Fleisher in 2007 as a student and then joined the faculty in 2011 after winning the Winnie Owens-Hart Apprenticeship. She currently teaches art all over Philadelphia to youth and families and is also the Traditional Nigerian and Ghanaian Pottery instructor at Fleisher.
