FALL 2010 Program Information:

Dates, class types, fees, refund policies, etc.

  • The Fall 2010 semester begins Monday, September 13th and continues through Saturday, November 20th.

  • Registration will begin on Monday, August 2nd
(online registration links and the downloadable registration form will be activated on that day).

Programs for adults are divided into two distinct types:

Classes, which are free, provide a solid introduction to drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, etching, lithography, and photography.

  • Advance registration and membership is required to attend free adult classes. Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Workshops, which require tuition, complement the basic foundation provided by free classes and offer increased studio time, smaller class sizes, advanced study, and both daytime and evening hours. Take a look at the workshops and special workshops & programs available this semester.
  • Fleisher workshops fill quickly, so early registration is encouraged, preferably before August 27th. Fleisher members receive a discount on tuition.

Programs for children are divided into two categories:

Classes, which are free, meet on Saturdays and provide a solid foundation in drawing, painting, sculpture, and printmaking for young artists ages 5 through 18.

Special programs for youth, which are free, include Cambodian Classical Dance on Saturday mornings and Teen Lounge — which provides self-directed opportunities for youth ages 13 to 18 to meaningfully interact with outstanding local artists working in a variety of disciplines. Teen Lounge meets after school on Mondays and Wednesdays during the school year.
  • Early registration is encouraged, but we will accept drop-ins on class days.

Fleisher Student Memberships
Memberships support Fleisher programs, so help us maintain this unique organization. Adult memberships for a single semester are $30 (child memberships are $15), or $60 for an adult annual membership ($40 for senior citizens age 65 and older; $90 for a household) valid for twelve months from date of purchase. Memberships are tax-deductible, nonrefundable and are not transferable to other terms.

Fleisher members receive special notice of receptions for exhibitions, discounts on workshop tuition, free general admission to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, a 10% discount in Fleisher's supply store, and discounted tickets for concerts and events at Fleisher. Even if you have no ambition to make art yourself, consider membership at Fleisher as an investment in future generations of artists — one that offers valuable benefits to artists and art lovers alike!

Materials
Unless otherwise noted in the course description, adult students must provide their own materials. Most are available for purchase in the Fleisher school store, located on the ground floor of our Catharine Street facility. Students receive a 10% discount on purchases with their valid Fleisher membership card. For health and safety reasons, students are prohibited from using turpentine and spray fixatives on the Fleisher premises. Odorless paint thinner, dust masks, and gloves are available in the school store.

    Store hours:
Monday through Thursday evenings, 6:15-7:30 PM
Monday and Tuesday afternoons, 12:45-1:30 PM
    Wednesday mornings, 9:30-10:30 AM.

Lab and Model Fees
Lab and model fees are charged in some classes. These fees are listed with their appropriate classes and must be paid at the time of registration. These fees are nonrefundable. See course descriptions for details.

Refunds/Withdrawals/Cancellations
If Fleisher cancels a workshop due to inadequate enrollment (determined two weeks prior to start date), registrants will receive full refunds for all fees paid for that workshop, excluding membership contributions. Students who wish to withdraw must notify Fleisher's registrar in writing in order to receive a refund. 75% of the tuition will be refunded before the first class, 50% before the second class, and 25% before the third class. After the third class there are no refunds.
  • Membership contributions and lab fees for free classes are nonrefundable; but all or portion of lab fees may be refunded for cancelations of and withdrawals from workshops.

WEATHER EMERGENCY CLOSING

Cancellation of classes due to inclement weather will be posted on Fleisher's homepage, recorded on the outgoing phone message, and announced over KYW Newsradio (1060 AM) using the following numbers:
Week-day classes — 2115
Weekend classes — 115

How to Register

Please click on the links at left for the appropriate category. From there, you will see specific information about registration procedures and deadlines.

For most classes, Fleisher accepts registrations on a first-come, first-served basis, so early registration is recommended. Waiting lists are established once a class fills, and applicants will be contacted if spaces become available.

Registration in Fleisher's free classes for children is determined through a lottery procedure during the fall, winter, and spring semesters. Click on the link for tuition-free classes for children & teens for details.
