Alla Prima Still Life Oil Painting
Alla prima means to finish a painting in one sitting, and in each session, over the course of three hours, you will learn about color and tonal harmonies, perspective, application of paint and composition. You will also develop concentration, the intensity of working, and decision making through specific exercises while painting.
This Monday class is eight weeks long to accommodate the two holidays during winter term, Martin Luther King Jr. Day (January 15) and Presidents’ Day (February 19). This open studio will not be held on these days and there will not be a makeup for the holidays.
Required supplies for this class:
Start the term with: Terpenoid*; Medium: Liquin Original*; Paper towels; Pizza box (or other box to transport wet paintings); Panel sizes: Bring 3 support to paint on prepared with grey gesso (no smaller than 8″x10″inches and no bigger that 14″x16″ inches)
Oil paints*: Giovanni suggests Winton/Windsor & Newton colors (40 ml tube): Cadmium Yellow Light, Indian Yellow, Cadmium Orange, Cadmium Red Light, Permanent Alizarin Crimson, Dioxazine Purple, French Ultramarine, Titanium White (150 ml), Ivory Black, Permanent Green, Chromium Oxide Green, Yellow Ochre, Raw Sienna, Indian Red, Burnt Sienna, Raw Umber
If you already have a color palette that you are familiar and works for you, Giovanni suggests you bring your own colors.
