Ceramics: Introduction to Hand Building
Come learn the basic techniques of hand-building and sculptural design in ceramics. Each session will include time for instruction, and for practicing new techniques. Concepts and theories of 3D and 2D design will be covered along with ideas of form and function. Let your hands learn to do whatever your mind can dream up!
What you will learn in this class:
Basic techniques for hand-building: slab construction, scoring, carving
Sculptural concepts including additive and reductive processes
Basic Glaze technique
Form and function
Required supplies for this class:
The studio fee is for the use of studio materials, glazing, and firing. You are required to purchase clay (available in school store) along with some additional supplies.
Hard fettling knife
Small plastic container for slip
1/4-inch inexpensive brush for applying slip
1-inch soft brush for glaze
Soft rubber scraper*
Plastic bags (the type used by dry cleaners)
