Discovering Printmaking (five-day immersive workshop)
Ever wanted to make your own prints? Come learn easy ways to make prints in class and at home. You’ll use easy and safe printing techniques that are non-toxic and water-based. I’ll show you simple techniques you can continue at home on your own kitchen table. You’ll learn simple printing methods that will express your artistic creativity. You’ll see lots of examples of prints by well-known artists as well as previous student work. We’ll look at our work and learn from each other in a welcoming community environment.
Included in the workshop will be behind-the-scenes visits to some of Philadelphia’s hidden treasures and special collections to see fine art prints and printed materials from everyday life.
We will also visit behind the scenes to see printed hidden treasures at some of Philadelphia’s special collections. Registration for site visits is included in your course fee. Attendance at these off-site visits is encouraged, but not required.
What you will learn in this workshop:
Take your idea and from inception to a finished print
Learn simple monoprint and relief techniques
Handle printmaking paper, mix colors, register layers, create prints you can share with classmates, friends, and family
Work in a communal studio with shared materials & equipment
Required supplies for this workshop:
The Studio Fee includes some supplies and the use of studio materials. We will talk about the supply list the first session. Please bring a pencil, or pen and a sketchbook, or notebook.
