Exploring Drum Leaf and Window Book Structures (one-day workshop)
In this workshop you will learn how to make two book structures using only folded paper and glue! The Drum Leaf binding is a simple glued structure with decorative covers that is perfectly suited for thicker papers, and can easily be used make journals or collage work. The Window Book also consists of adhesive binding of folded papers, introducing mylar windows to the pages for the inclusion of treasures such as ticket stubs, stamps, smaller images and more into the book.
What you will learn in this workshop:
The use of basic tools for book binding such as a bone folder, PVA glue, xacto blade
How to use the book structure as an album for found objects
Precision in cutting, folding, and gluing
Basic finishing and aesthetic techniques in completion of your handmade books
Required supplies for this workshop:
Pair of scissors
Collage materials – small low-relief items to include in book such as ticket stubs, ribbon/string, coins, stamps, fortune cookie fortunes, business cards, etc.
Optional supplies: Bone folder, Cutting mat, Xacto knife, Ruler
