Fiber Arts: Felting (four-session workshop)

Felting is one of oldest known textile arts that is still practiced today in both traditional and contemporary arts. In this workshop you’ll explore the art of needle and wet felting. Using mostly wool, you will also incorporate other natural fibers, fabric, and found objects. Students will learn to make wearable items and felted sculpture. Plenty of time will be dedicated for demonstration, hands on practice and discussion. No previous fibers experience is necessary.

What you will learn in this workshop:

  • Needle felting and wet felting techniques

  • Contemporary artists utilizing felting in their work

  • Flat and 3D wet felting

  • Incorporating yarn, fabric, and found objects

Required supplies:

  • Wool roving in your favorite colors (the instructor will have white for general class use)

  • A pack of felting needles

  • A felting ball

  • An apron

  • Scissors

  • Fabric and found fabric objects you’d like to incorporate into your work

  • The instructor will have the tools needed for wet felting
