Introduction to Drawing

This is a recommended class for all students coming to Fleisher without previous instruction or experience.

You will learn step by step instructions to begin a drawing. You will learn about sighting techniques, negative space, visual measurements and trusting yourself and what you are seeing. We will work primarily in pencil charcoal and conte crayon. Concepts covered include composition, design, tone, line, and perspective.

What you will learn in this class:

  • Learn proper sighting techniques to create an accurate representation of what you are looking at

  • Gain confidence in your observational skills

  • Learn to draw boxes in 1 and 2 point perspective

  • Learn what an axis and an ellipse is and how to draw them

  • Learn proper techniques for drawing multiple objects in relationship to each other from life

Required supplies:

  • Start the term with these supplies: 18 x 24-inch white drawing paper pad*, drawing pencils: HB or #2*, Scotch tape*, kneaded eraser*

  • Midway through the semester, you will need: 12″ ruler*, two 9×12″ pieces of tracing paper*
