Kiln-Fired Glass Tiles

This workshop is a fun introduction to kiln-fired cast glass through tile making. We will cover the unique properties of the medium of glass and you will mold and cast a sculptural glass tile. We’ll explore glass working techniques such as annealing, painting with glass powders, and using cold working equipment to refine your finished pieces. All levels welcome.

What you will learn in this workshop:

  • The properties of glass and kiln-firing

  • To create a simple sculpture mold

  • How to apply glass powders onto a mold surface and how to fill a mold with glass

  • How to do cold working on glass work after it has been fired for refine the finished piece

Required supplies:

  • Dust mask

  • Pencil or pen *

  • The glass frit you will use to fill your molds will be available for purchase in the studio. The cost of this supply will depend on the size and design of your tile pieces, but will generally range in price, up to $30.
