Kiln Fired Glass Tiles
This workshop is a fun introduction to kiln-fired cast glass through tile making. We will cover the unique properties of the medium of glass and you will mold cast a sculptural glass tile. We’ll explore the properties of glass such as annealing, painting with glass powders, and using cold working equipment to refine your finished pieces.
What you will learn in this workshop:
Learn about the properties of glass and kiln-firing
Learn to create a simple sculpture mold
Learn how to apply glass powders onto a mold surface and how to fill a mold with glass
Learn how to do cold working on glass work after it has been fired for refine the finished piece
Required supplies for this workshop:
A dust mask
Bring a sketch book
Pencil or pen
The glass frit you will use to fill your molds will be available for purchase in the studio. The cost of this supply will depend on the size and design of your tile piece, but will generally range in price, up to $30.
