This workshop is designed to instruct and encourage both beginning and advanced students. You will gain experience through direct, alla prima, single session painting from the life model. The goal of the workshop is to give each of you the self-confidence–gained through experience–to do rewarding independent work.
Due to Fleisher’s Founder’s Award Celebration no evening classes will be held on Wednesday, June 7. Those classes will be made up on Wednesday, June 14.
What you will learn in this class:
The importance of a functional initial placement
The importance of a simple tonal analysis
Sensitivity to materials
Understanding of painting the head, portraiture, in the historical context
Support: Canvas, panel, or gessoed paper, at least four, from 4 x 6 inches to 18 x 24 inches
Medium: Linseed oil, Liquin
Colors: White, Cadmium Yellow, Yellow Ochre, Raw Sienna, Cadmium Red Light, Earth Red (English Red, Venetian Red, Flesh Ochre), Quinacridone Red, Burnt Sienna, Viridian Green, Ultramarine Blue, Ivory Black
Brushes: a variety of fibers, sizes, and shapes (Stan prefer nylon filberts)
Palette, paper towel, small cups for solvent, mineral spirits
