Tile Making and Mosaics
This is your introduction to the technical, historical, and aesthetic context of decorative and functional tiles and mosaics. You will use press molds in combination with other mosaic materials, including glass, to create finished pieces. The emphasis will be on design, pattern, construction, and finished presentation.
Your instructor will provide lots of useful information about historical and contemporary mosaic works, along with where to source materials and specialized tools, for your specific projects.
This Monday class is eight weeks long to accommodate the two holidays during winter term, Martin Luther King Jr. Day (January 15) and Presidents’ Day (February 19). This open studio will not be held on these days and there will not be a makeup for the holidays.
Begin the term with a notebook and the instructor will discuss which tools are best for each project on the first night of class.
Clay must be purchased in the school store.
The studio fee includes the use of studio materials, glazing, and firing.
