SUMMARY:HANDMADE
DESCRIPTION:HANDMADE is an indoor juried craft market organized by Fleisher Art Memorial to promote local vendors and artists. Featuring a wide array of handmade and artisanal items\, this annual market is the perfect place to find holiday gifts at a range of prices to accommodate all budgets. \nShoppers can expect quality handmade goods that reflect Fleisher’s offerings\, promoting diversity and inclusivity; the event will highlight vendors from El Mercado Cultural program—a unique initiative at Fleisher focusing on the entrepreneurial needs of the Latinx community—as well as a selection of local artists and craftspeople. During the event\, Fleisher’s 126th Annual Adult Student Exhibition will also be on display in the galleries\, with many works for sale created by their talented community of artists. \nINTERESTED IN SELLING YOUR WORK AT HANDMADE? \nYou will need to log-in or create an account via Submittable to see the full vendor application. Please complete all of the fields to provide a clear understanding of you and your work. \n– FREE TO APPLY. $50 dollar fee if accepted.\n– Deadline to submit is Monday\, November 4\, 2024\n– Vendors will be notified of their acceptance by November 15\n– If accepted\, vendors will be onsite to sell their work at Fleisher on Saturday\, December 14\n– The $50 vendor fee supports Fleisher’s work as a nonprofit organization. Please contact Gerard Silva at gsilva@fleisher.org if you need financial assistance.\n– Applicants are encouraged to share social media handles and websites for Fleisher’s use when promoting the event and HANDMADE vendors.\n– Please keep Fleisher’s mission of making art accessible to everyone\, regardless of economic means\, background\, or artistic experience in mind when pricing your wares. Vendors who offer gift options of $75 or less tend to sell the most during the market. \n  \nAbout the Juror \n  \nLISA MOSER is a Philadelphia native and manager of Julia de Burgos Bookstore at Taller Puertorriqueño\, the tri-state area’s only bilingual and Latine-focused bookstore. In four years\, she has quadrupled the store’s growth with a thoughtfully curated and ever-expanding selection of books\, engaging author events\, and strong community partnerships. She earned a BA in Spanish and Theology from Lipscomb University in Nashville\, TN\, where she also discovered her passion for salsa dancing. Lisa holds certificates in TEFL and Medical Interpretation and served as a member of the Latin American Book Fair Committee. Helping customers find books that reflect and affirm their intersecting identities is one of her greatest joys. \nQuestions? SUMMARY:Electromagnetic Touch: Radios and Community - Editing in a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW)
DESCRIPTION:As part of the Found in Translation series funded by the PA Humanities and National Endowment for the Humanities\, Fleisher Art Memorial and Asian Arts Initiative are proud to present Electromagnetic Touch: Radios and Community\, a series of workshops organized by the Sound Museum Collective of Philadelphia. The Collective holds space to reconstruct our relationship to sounds by creating a platform for women\, nonbinary\, and trans sound artists and engineers through workshops\, collaborative projects\, and creative community partnerships. The seminar includes both online and in-person engagements\, including a historical overview of radio history\, hands-on experimentation with radio technologies\, and developing radio stories through Queer perspectives. \nFound in Translation is a free series of art history and critical theory workshops organized by Fleisher in partnership with several cultural institutions throughout Philadelphia. The series specifically focuses on centering BIPOC and Queer voices\, reflecting a more inclusive view of the communities we work with. Found in Translation\, aligned with Fleisher’s mission of making art more accessible through our education and community programs\, brings these valuable perspectives to a broader public. All seminars will be provided with live Spanish interpretation. \nEditing in a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) \nMonday\, May 16\, 2022\, 6:30 – 8:30pm \n\n\nThis workshop will review technical details of putting together a radio program from fading in/out\, adjusting the levels/volumes of your audio\, and adding music. There will be an ask for people to come prepared with playlists\, stories or interviews. This workshop will take place at Fleisher’s Digital Media Lab with access to computers\, and offer a hands-on experience to create content ready to be aired on AAI Radio. If you have access to your own laptop\, we encourage you to bring it. We highly encourage attendees to bring their own laptops. SMC can be responsible for installing free user-friendly DAWs for participants if they are not already on the computers. \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:Electromagnetic Touch: Radios and Community - Hands-on Radio Circuit Experimentation

All seminars will be provided with live Spanish interpretation. \n\n\nHands-on Radio Circuit Experimentation \nMonday\, April 18\, 2022\, 6:30 – 8:30pm \n\n\nThis workshop will be a hands-on building opportunity for the community to familiarize themselves with radio technology in a more tactile way. This workshop will involve tinkering that contributes to the conceptual art piece that SMC is building for AAI. In this way\, this work of art is further engaging with the community as they work with SMC to create this radio art. By doing so\, it will also be an introduction to a unique form of technical literacy. In this workshop we will be dissecting portable battery powered radios. This will serve as an introduction to the mechanical functionality of the radio. Additionally\, we will be removing the circuit board from its enclosure and turning it into an unconventional instrument by having participants use their bodies as an antenna and playing the circuit-board. The result will be interesting squeaks\, noises and perhaps radio station broadcasts. These circuit boards and speakers will then be used in the creation of an interactive wall that will be a part of the final art exhibition. \n\n\nRegister here.
