SUMMARY:What Happens Next? | Sponge Printing with Layla Ehsan
DESCRIPTION:What happens when you dip a sponge into paint and then press it on to paper? Can you make a pattern by pressing the same shape over and over?  \n  \n\n\nIn this project\, young artists will make stamps using household sponges\, and then use the stamps and some paint to create relief prints on paper. This project will give young artists the chance to learn and practice sequencing\, cause and effect\, and fine motor skills. \n\n  \nIn this series of six outdoor workshops\, young children and their families will explore new textures\, colors\, and sensations with the help of professional teaching artists. Each workshop centers on a single simple artistic process: mural painting\, torn paper collaging\, or relief printing. Participants will also receive art kits with materials and recipes to bring the creativity home! All events and materials are FREE. Advance registration NOT required. \n  \nSee the full list of workshop dates and locations here. This slate of workshops is geared especially towards families who speak English\, Khmer\, or Spanish at home. \n  \nIn the event of rain\, this workshop will take place on Wednesday\, August 11 from 10am – 12pm.

SUMMARY:What Happens Next? | Torn Paper Collages with Mike Storm
DESCRIPTION:What happens when you use glue to attach paper to another surface?  \n  \n\n\nIn this project\, young artists will use their fine motor skills to tear sheets of construction paper into smaller pieces\, and attach them to a cardboard shape using glue to create a paper collage. \n  \nIn the event of rain\, this workshop will take place on Wednesday\, July 7 from 10am – 12pm.

SUMMARY:Fleisher From a Distance: Weaving
DESCRIPTION:Join teaching artist Stefanie Fuoco to learn more about weaving from home. Stefanie will demonstrate how to build a loom with everyday household objects. We’ll also discuss how to weave on the loom and make a weaving using the core technique of plain weave and how to finish the weaving with fringe. At the end of the webinar\, students will have a tutorial on how to remove the weaving from the loom so that the loom can be used to create another beautiful piece and the weaving can be hung as a piece of art on any wall. \nStefanie Fuoco is a weaver and fiber artist. She was raised in rural Vermont and moved to Philadelphia to continue her education in the arts. Stefanie shows her work in various galleries and boutiques\, as well as working on private commissions. She also shares her craft by teaching locally at various locations. Her weavings represent vignettes\, sketches of an emotion caught in time. Her work is forever evolving\, she creates daily\, exploring different techniques and mediums while keeping an organic and natural approach to her work. SUMMARY:Fleisher From a Distance: Wind Challenge Edition with Yvonne Lung
DESCRIPTION:While Fleisher’s exhibitions are on pause\, join us online on Mondays for compelling conversations with past and present Wind Challenge artists. Established in 1978\, the Wind Challenge Exhibition Series has enriched the lives of countless visitors and introduced audiences to contemporary art created by the region’s emerging artists. The Wind Challenge Exhibition Series is made possible thanks to generous support from the Dina Wind Art Foundation and Fleisher members. \nYvonne Lung\, a 2009 Wind Challenge artist\, is an Asian-American interdisciplinary artist with work ranging from sculpture\, performance\, and video to social practice. Her work is about social change through interaction\, learning what we have in common by using her heritage as a vehicle to address shared experiences despite cultural differences. \nShe received her MFA from the University of Nevada Las Vegas and her BFA from Texas Tech University. She was a co-founding member of Practice Gallery in Philadelphia and currently teaches at Tyler School of Art and Architecture as an adjunct professor. She is also the general manager of Nichole Canuso Dance Company and the ceramic studio coordinator at University City Arts League. \nGrants awarded include an artist grant from the Nevada Council of the Arts and two Art and Change Grants from the Leeway Foundation. Artist residencies include Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture\, Manymini Residency\, Art Omi International Artist Residency\, and Asian Arts Initiative’s Social Practice Lab Artist-in-Resident. She is currently the co-captain of the Philadelphia Chinatown Dragon Boat Team and a member of the Radical Asian American Womxn’s Collective. Her latest project is the exterior mural for the Chinatown Crane Building at 10th and Vine streets. She resides in NE Philadelphia with her partner\, Dustin\, who is also an artist. \nArtist website:\nyvonnelung.com \nThis event is open to the public with a suggested donation of $10 but is limited to a maximum number of 100 participants.
