DESCRIPTION:Explore and experiment with the immediacy of this one of a kind screenprinting technique. Printed images will be made using Caran D’Ache water-soluble crayons and soft graphite to create layers of drawings and textures. Explore the many different effects possible achieved with simple\, freeing and direct techniques. You do not need to have a plan for an image\, as it is possible to experiment with the materials and our extensive collection of textures that we use for rubbings directly on the screen. Are you experienced with darkroom photography\, but looking for a new challenge? Join Fleisher faculty Ahmed Salvador for this workshop. There are no prerequisites for this offering\, which is open to students at all levels.\n\nBeginners will learn all the basic skills including:\n1. How to operate your 35mm camera settings for greater control\n2. How to develop black-and-white film\, and how to print from negatives\n3. How to print and manipulate black-and-white images in the darkroom\n\nStudents with more experience will work alongside the instructor to finesse their prints with knowledge of printing techniques such as dodging and burning\, using contrast filters\, etc.\n\nAccessibility Note: This studio has partial stair access. SUMMARY:Jewelry Workshop: Etched Earrings
DESCRIPTION:Draw on metal and create unique earrings in this one-time workshop well suited for beginners and advanced students alike. Students will take a design of their own and using a non-toxic saltwater etching technique\, etch the design into the surface of sheet metal. After etching\, students will solder earring posts to the backs of their designs. Using a patina\, students will then darken the metal and sand back the highpoints to make their design pop. Students will create a finished set of earrings they can take home at the end of the workshop. This workshop could be a good fit for those interested in 2D artmaking and want an introduction into a handful of basic metalsmithing processes. \n\nAccessibility Note: This studio has partial stair access. Together\, these events will create a seamless flow between spaces and help attract a broader audience. \nEL MERCADO CULTURAL is a grant-funded program organized by Fleisher Art Memorial to encourage the Latinx community’s participation in commerce and the arts through cultural markets. The focus is to promote multiculturalism by celebrating the heritage and the talent of Latin Americans in Philadelphia. DESCRIPTION:Deepen your experience of watercolor and/or pastel painting through contemplative practice\, deep looking\, and attentive engagement with the spring landscapes of the Pendle Hill Retreat Center. Working within the gardens\, wooded paths\, and quiet outdoor spaces\, we will slow down our seeing and allow observation\, reflection\, and presence to guide the creative process. Students may work in watercolor\, pastel\, or a combination of both\, supported through individual guidance from the instructor to identify personal areas of growth\, inquiry\, or a focused project. \n\nRather than emphasizing speed or product\, this workshop invites a mindful approach to mark-making and material exploration\, using the emerging colors\, light\, and textures of spring as a primary source. DESCRIPTION:Join South Philly Time Capsule’s Sue Liedke for a MomMom Glaze Workshop inspired by holiday traditions of yesteryear. For each registration\, participants will receive a bisque-fired holiday tree\, cast from vintage molds. This workshop will feature a choice of either a 10″ or 16″ inch tree. To select a 16″ tree\, please add the “additional item” during registration. \nParticipants will be able to decorate their choice using a variety of glazes. All supplies are provided\, including light kits\, and no art-making experience is required. \nMomMom Craft Night is an ongoing program series curated by Sue Liedke that celebrates nostalgic kitschy crafts from a bygone era. Designed for makers and novices alike\, these informal gatherings are designed to bring the neighborhood together.
