Are you experienced with darkroom photography\, but looking for a new challenge? Join Fleisher faculty Ahmed Salvador for this one-day workshop. \nBeginners will learn all the basic skills including how to operate a 35mm camera settings for greater control\, how to develop black-and-white film and print from negatives\, and how to print and manipulate black-and-white images in the darkroom. \nStudents with more experience will work alongside the instructor to finesse their prints with knowledge of printing techniques such as dodging and burning\, using contrast filters\, etc.

Louchheim Fellow: Hanna Vogel \nHanna Vogel is an artist\, writer\, and teacher living and working in Philadelphia. Born and raised in rural northern California\, she received an MFA from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and a BFA from the California College of the Arts. She has shown her work nationally and internationally\, and has presented at conferences and published papers internationally. \nThe Louchheim Fellowship was created in memory of Dene Louchheim\, former Chairperson of the Fleisher Art Memorial from 1964 to 1980\, and spouse of Stuart Louchheim\, Samuel Fleisher’s nephew. The Louchheim Fellow is selected biannually through a juried process with an award amount of $1\,000. \nThe Fred and Naomi Hazell Awardee: Mark Dilks \nMark Dilks is a multidisciplinary creator and collaborator. As a trained painter with a background in collage\, physical touch\, materiality\, and accumulated sampling play strongly in Mark’s life and work. They have organized happenings\, hosted group shows\, and created environmental experiences. Ventures in sounds include analog collages\, abstract songs and modular synthesizer patches. In May 2023\, The Pottery Gym hosted Mark’s first solo painting show\, May For by Fours Witness Cherry’s Blossoms Ring. The work is a result of a passionate concern for tactility and reverberation within the everyday. Mark is an alum of the University of Pennsylvania (MFA ’13) and of Hampshire College (BA ’05). \nThe Fred and Naomi Hazell Art Award was established by artist\, musician\, poet and craftswoman Naomi Hazell to support the artistic growth and excellence of painters working in oils. The Hazell Awardee is for oil painters only and selected biannually through a juried process with an award amount of $1\,000. \nAbout the Juror: Ying Li\nYing Li is an American artist and educator. She is the Phlyssa Koshland Professor of Fine Arts at Haverford College. SUMMARY:Faculty Fellowship Exhibition Closing Reception
DESCRIPTION:Join us to celebrate the 2024 Faculty Fellowship Exhibition featuring Hanna Vogel and Mark Dilks. \nThe Dene M. Louchheim Fellow: Hanna Vogel \nHanna Vogel is an artist\, writer\, and teacher living and working in Philadelphia. Born and raised in rural northern California\, she received an MFA from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and a BFA from the California College of the Arts. She has shown her work nationally and internationally\, and has presented at conferences and published papers internationally. \nThe Louchheim Fellowship was created in memory of Dene Louchheim\, former Chairperson of the Fleisher Art Memorial from 1964 to 1980\, and spouse of Stuart Louchheim\, Samuel Fleisher’s nephew. The Louchheim Fellow is selected biannually through a juried process with an award amount of $1\,000. \nThe Fred and Naomi Hazell Awardee: Mark Dilks \nMark Dilks is a multidisciplinary creator and collaborator. As a trained painter with a background in collage\, physical touch\, materiality\, and accumulated sampling play strongly in Mark’s life and work. They have organized happenings\, hosted group shows\, and created environmental experiences. Ventures in sounds include analog collages\, abstract songs and modular synthesizer patches. In May 2023\, The Pottery Gym hosted Mark’s first solo painting show\, May For by Fours Witness Cherry’s Blossoms Ring. The work is a result of a passionate concern for tactility and reverberation within the everyday. Mark is an alum of the University of Pennsylvania (MFA ’13) and of Hampshire College (BA ’05). \nThe Fred and Naomi Hazell Art Award was established by artist\, musician\, poet and craftswoman Naomi Hazell to support the artistic growth and excellence of painters working in oils. The Hazell Awardee is for oil painters only and selected biannually through a juried process with an award amount of $1\,000. \nAbout the Juror: Ying Li \nYing Li is an American artist and educator. She is the Phlyssa Koshland Professor of Fine Arts at Haverford College. The work adorns the Works on Paper building at 705 Christian St. The work speaks to the juventud acumulada or accumulated youth of the participants and combines a variety of symbols with significance to the group\, such as Fleisher’s Sanctuary rosette\, the human embrace\, and the important roles that elders play in Hispanic communities. The celebration kicks off in front of Sembrar\, Cultivar y Cosechar with drop-in art making followed by a ribbon cutting. Festivities will culminate with a family meal in the Fleisher Sanctuary with participating artists sharing recollections from their two-year Creative Aging journey. SUMMARY:MomMom Glaze Workshop: Holiday Trees (Sunday)
DESCRIPTION:Join South Philly Time Capsule’s Sue Liedke for a MomMom Glaze Workshop inspired by holiday traditions of yesteryear. For each registration\, participants will receive a bisque-fired holiday tree\, cast from vintage molds. This workshop will feature a choice of either a 10″ or 16″ inch tree. To select a 16″ tree\, please add the “additional item” during registration. \nParticipants will be able to decorate their choice using a variety of glazes. Following the workshop\, we’ll fire your work and it will be ready for pick up at Fleisher by December 6. This is an all ages program. All supplies are provided\, including light kits\, and no art-making experience is required. \nMomMom Craft Night is an ongoing program series curated by Sue Liedke that celebrates nostalgic kitschy crafts from a bygone era. Designed for makers and novices alike\, these informal gatherings are designed to bring the neighborhood together. Sue curates South Philly Time Capsule which celebrates the vintage interiors of South Philly. \n
