SUMMARY:Stained Glass (five-day workshop)
DESCRIPTION:This stained glass workshop will be for beginning and advanced students. Learner’s will be encouraged to bring ideas for small two and three dimensional projects and pre-made designs can also be provided. Examples include mirror frames\, votive candle holders\, jewelry\, and sculptural objects all of which can include ceramic and metal items other that could be included in the project. Glass cutting and assembly techniques will be demonstrated and practiced resulting in a finished project. Glass concepts and historical information will be discussed throughout. All levels welcome!

People of all ages are invited to join us in our Works on Paper building (705 Christian Street) to make their own valentines while exploring a wide range of printmaking techniques from block print to screenprint. No experience is necessary as our artists will be on hand to help participants work with designs donated by some of the region’s best printmakers. Registration is required. \nOur all ages session includes all printing materials and takeaways. Activities are suitable for ages 5 and up. When Hallmark cards just won’t cut it\, say I love you with a handmade valentine. We’ll discuss the themes and stylistic choices revealed in her films\, how her films fit in and differ from the modern film landscape as well as hearing class reaction in post-screening discussion. \nThis week\, we’ll be screening Reichardt’s 1994 debut RIVER OF GRASS\, a personal take on the “lovers on the run” genre.

SUMMARY:jumpstART: One of a Kind Screenprint
DESCRIPTION:Explore and experiment with the immediacy of this one of a kind screenprinting technique. Printed images will be made using Caran D’Ache water-soluble crayons and soft graphite to create layers of drawings and textures. Explore the many different effects possible achieved with simple\, freeing and direct techniques. You do not need to have a plan for an image\, as it is possible to experiment with the materials and our extensive collection of textures that we use for rubbings directly on the screen.  Of course\, if you have some ideas in mind please bring in sketches or images to use for source material.

SUMMARY:jumpstart: Sculpting Hands
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will focus on creating life-like human hands in clay. Students will gain an understanding of proportions\, anatomy\, and modeling techniques based on observation/research. The workshop will offer demonstrations to illustrate sculpture methodology\, as well as individual critiques to assist students in meeting their personal goals. \nFiring Schedule: Sculpture students are welcome to fire finished work in our Ceramics Studio. Finished work may not be on an armature and must be bone dry before firing. Therefore\, sculpture students are encouraged to bring finished work home at the end of the term and bring it back to campus the following term for firing.
