SUMMARY:What Happens Next? | Torn Paper Collages with Mike Storm
DESCRIPTION:What happens when you use glue to attach paper to another surface?  \n  \n\n\nIn this project\, young artists will use their fine motor skills to tear sheets of construction paper into smaller pieces\, and attach them to a cardboard shape using glue to create a paper collage. This project introduces the concept of “process over product” and gives young artist the chance to explore cause-and-effect\, tearing\, grasping\, and gluing. \n\n  \nIn this series of six outdoor workshops\, young children and their families will explore new textures\, colors\, and sensations with the help of professional teaching artists. Each workshop centers on a single simple artistic process: mural painting\, torn paper collaging\, or relief printing. Participants will also receive art kits with materials and recipes to bring the creativity home! All events and materials are FREE. Advance registration NOT required. \n  \nSee the full list of workshop dates and locations here. This slate of workshops is geared especially towards families who speak English\, Khmer\, or Spanish at home. \n  \nIn the event of rain\, this workshop will take place on Wednesday\, July 7 from 10am – 12pm.

To these ends\, she has led several public art projects\, including with students at the PA School for the Deaf\, housing insecure populations in Kensington\, and immigrant and refugee populations in South and Northeast Philadelphia. She is currently working on a 66 foot\, ceramic and painted mural with fifth-grade classes at the Joseph Catharine School in West Philadelphia. \nArtist website:\nbindingthings.com \nArtist social media:\n@bindingthings \nThis event is open to the public with a suggested donation of $10 but is limited to a maximum number of 100 participants. SUMMARY:Fleisher From a Distance: Weaving
DESCRIPTION:Join teaching artist Stefanie Fuoco to learn more about weaving from home. Stefanie will demonstrate how to build a loom with everyday household objects. We’ll also discuss how to weave on the loom and make a weaving using the core technique of plain weave and how to finish the weaving with fringe. At the end of the webinar\, students will have a tutorial on how to remove the weaving from the loom so that the loom can be used to create another beautiful piece and the weaving can be hung as a piece of art on any wall. \nStefanie Fuoco is a weaver and fiber artist. She was raised in rural Vermont and moved to Philadelphia to continue her education in the arts. Stefanie shows her work in various galleries and boutiques\, as well as working on private commissions. She also shares her craft by teaching locally at various locations. Her weavings represent vignettes\, sketches of an emotion caught in time. Her work is forever evolving\, she creates daily\, exploring different techniques and mediums while keeping an organic and natural approach to her work. Her weavings are unique and always adds diversity and great energy to any space. \nThis event is open to the public with a suggested donation of $10 but is limited to a maximum number of 100 participants. Advanced registration is required. The event will be hosted through Zoom\, which can be accessed on desktop and laptop computers\, as well as mobile devices. SUMMARY:Fleisher From a Distance: Wind Challenge Edition with Natalie Kuenzi
DESCRIPTION:While Fleisher’s exhibitions are on pause\, join us online on Mondays for compelling conversations with past and present Wind Challenge artists. Established in 1978\, the Wind Challenge Exhibition Series has enriched the lives of countless visitors and introduced audiences to contemporary art created by the region’s emerging artists. The Wind Challenge Exhibition Series is made possible thanks to generous support from the Dina Wind Art Foundation and Fleisher members. \nNatalie Kuenzi is a 2021 Wind Challenge artist. She is an interdisciplinary artist and educator living and working in Philadelphia\, PA. She holds a BFA in Ceramics and a BA in Art History and Theory from Western Colorado University and an MFA from Tyler School of Art of Temple University. Natalie is a member of Vox Populi\, an artist-run space in Philadelphia\, and her work has been exhibited in Philadelphia\, PA\, New York\, NY\, Washington\, D.C.\, Baltimore\, MD\, New Haven\, CT\, Detroit\, MI\, and beyond. Additionally\, Natalie is an adjunct professor and studio technician at Tyler School of Art as well as an instructor for The Clay Studio and The Claymobile of Philadelphia. \nArtist statement:\nI hope to create space for creative wonder and joy. My work is a hybrid of craft and art-making processes that incorporate elements of ceramics\, fiber\, painting\, and sculpture. Using high and low art materials\, I reimagine material and process to dismantle and repurpose fine art and craft tradition. Currently\, I am exploring new methods of art-making that celebrate the artist and viewer as agents for radical change\, interrupting the way we make and consume through reclamation and material innovation. I seek to disrupt attitudes of taking-and-wasting that permeate Western culture and present an alternative way forward\, encouraging my viewer to reimagine the world around them and celebrating the role of dreaming in the creation of a more equitable world. \nArtist website:\nnataliekuenzi.com \nThis event is open to the public with a suggested donation of $10 but is limited to a maximum number of 100 participants.
