SUMMARY:Etched Earrings
DESCRIPTION:Draw on metal and create unique earrings in this one-time workshop well suited for beginners and advanced students alike. Students will take a design of their own and using a non-toxic saltwater etching technique\, etch the design into the surface of sheet metal. After etching\, students will solder earring posts to the backs of their designs. Using a patina\, students will then darken the metal and sand back the highpoints to make their design pop. Students will create a finished set of earrings they can take home at the end of the workshop. This workshop could be a good fit for those interested in 2D artmaking and want an introduction into a handful of basic metalsmithing processes. \n  \nSupplies: \n• Please bring a notepad and something to write with.\n• It is recommended that you come with drawings\, shapes\, or simple photo tracings you would want to use as imagery for your earrings\, fitting within the dimensions of 1”x2” or smaller.\n• All supplies are included with enrollment

DESCRIPTION:Acclaimed film director Kelly Reichardt was described by the New Yorker in 2023 as “this country’s finest observer of ordinary grit.” Over three decades she has created an uncompromised body of work\, exploring a wide range of ideas while focusing on the lives of working people. We’ll discuss the themes and stylistic choices revealed in her films\, how her films fit in and differ from the modern film landscape as well as hearing class reaction in post-screening discussion. \nThis week\, we’ll be screening Reichardt’s 1994 debut RIVER OF GRASS\, a personal take on the “lovers on the run” genre.
