SUMMARY:Watercolor & Pastel at Pendle Hill (4 sessions)
DESCRIPTION:Deepen your experience of watercolor and/or pastel painting through contemplative practice\, deep looking\, and attentive engagement with the spring landscapes of the Pendle Hill Retreat Center. Working within the gardens\, wooded paths\, and quiet outdoor spaces\, we will slow down our seeing and allow observation\, reflection\, and presence to guide the creative process. Students may work in watercolor\, pastel\, or a combination of both\, supported through individual guidance from the instructor to identify personal areas of growth\, inquiry\, or a focused project. \n\nRather than emphasizing speed or product\, this workshop invites a mindful approach to mark-making and material exploration\, using the emerging colors\, light\, and textures of spring as a primary source. Foundational techniques\, such as color mixing\, paint handling\, composition\, shading\, hatching\, and blending\, will be introduced as tools to support expressive clarity and deeper visual connection. Experimentation\, curiosity\, and responsiveness to place will be actively encouraged. DESCRIPTION:Draw on metal and create unique earrings in this one-time workshop well suited for beginners and advanced students alike. Students will take a design of their own and using a non-toxic saltwater etching technique\, etch the design into the surface of sheet metal. After etching\, students will solder earring posts to the backs of their designs. Using a patina\, students will then darken the metal and sand back the highpoints to make their design pop. Students will create a finished set of earrings they can take home at the end of the workshop. This workshop could be a good fit for those interested in 2D artmaking and want an introduction into a handful of basic metalsmithing processes. \n\nAccessibility Note: This studio has partial stair access. DESCRIPTION:Explore and experiment with the immediacy of this one of a kind screenprinting technique. Printed images will be made using Caran D’Ache water-soluble crayons and soft graphite to create layers of drawings and textures. Explore the many different effects possible achieved with simple\, freeing and direct techniques. You do not need to have a plan for an image\, as it is possible to experiment with the materials and our extensive collection of textures that we use for rubbings directly on the screen. DESCRIPTION:Did you ever wish you’d learned to develop and print black-and-white film and photographs in the darkroom\, but just never had the time? Are you experienced with darkroom photography\, but looking for a new challenge? Join Fleisher faculty Ahmed Salvador for this workshop. There are no prerequisites for this offering\, which is open to students at all levels. \nBeginners will learn all the basic skills including:\n– How to operate your 35mm camera settings for greater control\n– How to develop black-and-white film\, and how to print from negatives\n– How to print and manipulate black-and-white images in the darkroom \nStudents with more experience will work alongside the instructor to finesse their prints with knowledge of printing techniques such as dodging and burning\, using contrast filters\, etc. \nAccessibility Note: This studio has partial stair access. DESCRIPTION:Explore and experiment with the immediacy of this one of a kind screenprinting technique. Printed images will be made using Caran D’Ache water-soluble crayons and soft graphite to create layers of drawings and textures. Explore the many different effects possible achieved with simple\, freeing and direct techniques. You do not need to have a plan for an image\, as it is possible to experiment with the materials and our extensive collection of textures that we use for rubbings directly on the screen. Of course\, if you have some ideas in mind please bring in sketches or images to use for source material. \nAll supplies are included with enrollment.

DESCRIPTION:Fleisher offers day off camps on some Philadelphia School District closings. Join us for a full day of art-filled fun in our studios! Projects will change for each one day camp but explore art across different mediums and inspired by unique themes. Be ready to take home new artwork by the end of the day! \nDepending on your campers age\, they will spend the day with either our 5-7 year old or 8-11 year old cohort. If your camper would like to be in the same classroom as a friend or sibling\, please email cy@fleisher.org after registering. \nWant the fun to continue? Join our After Camp Club for games and activities in our Sanctuary space from 3:30 – 5:30 pm.
