This year\, we’re partnering with Fleisher’s El Mercado Cultural initiative. El Mercado will take place outdoors in the parking lot\, while Made at Fleisher will be held indoors in the Sanctuary. Together\, these events will create a seamless flow between spaces and help attract a broader audience. \nEL MERCADO CULTURAL is a grant-funded program organized by Fleisher Art Memorial to encourage the Latinx community’s participation in commerce and the arts through cultural markets. The focus is to promote multiculturalism by celebrating the heritage and the talent of Latin Americans in Philadelphia. El Mercado accomplishes this by highlighting the arts\, artisanal wares and crafts through cultural preservation and exchange in markets where people connect and build relationships and customers.

SUMMARY:Jewelry Workshop: Etched Earrings
DESCRIPTION:Draw on metal and create unique earrings in this one-time workshop well suited for beginners and advanced students alike. Students will take a design of their own and using a non-toxic saltwater etching technique\, etch the design into the surface of sheet metal. After etching\, students will solder earring posts to the backs of their designs. Using a patina\, students will then darken the metal and sand back the highpoints to make their design pop. Students will create a finished set of earrings they can take home at the end of the workshop. This workshop could be a good fit for those interested in 2D artmaking and want an introduction into a handful of basic metalsmithing processes. \n\nAccessibility Note: This studio has partial stair access. How to operate your 35mm camera settings for greater control\n2. How to develop black-and-white film\, and how to print from negatives\n3. DESCRIPTION:Explore and experiment with the immediacy of this one of a kind screenprinting technique. Printed images will be made using Caran D’Ache water-soluble crayons and soft graphite to create layers of drawings and textures. Explore the many different effects possible achieved with simple\, freeing and direct techniques. You do not need to have a plan for an image\, as it is possible to experiment with the materials and our extensive collection of textures that we use for rubbings directly on the screen. Of course\, if you have some ideas in mind please bring in sketches or images to use for source material. \nAll supplies are included with enrollment.

Join Fleisher faculty Ahmed Salvador for this workshop. \nThere are no prerequisites for this offering\, which is open to students at all levels. \nBeginners will learn all the basic skills including:\n1. How to operate your 35mm camera settings for greater control\n2. How to develop color film\, and how to print from negatives\n3. How to print and manipulate color images in the darkroom \nStudents with more experience will work alongside the instructor to finesse their color prints with knowledge of printing techniques such as dodging and burning\, using contrast filters\, etc. \nAccessibility Note: This studio has partial stair access.
