Shoppers can expect quality art work and handmade goods that reflect Fleisher’s offerings. \nAbout the Juror\nMaureen Duffy has been a member of the Fleisher faculty since 2017. She is a jewelry designer and artist living and working in the heart of South Philadelphia. She graduated from Moore College of Art and Design in 2005 with a degree in 3D fine arts with a concentration in the studio of metals. She earned her graduate degree at SUNY at New Paltz\, NY. In addition to Fleisher\, Maureen has taught jewelry classes at Moore College of Art and Design\, Millersville University\, and Tyler School of Art. DESCRIPTION:Please join us to celebrate the life of Cathy Hopkins at Fleisher Art Memorial on Saturday\, May 18. The celebration of life will begin at 2:30 pm in Palumbo Park (directly adjacent to Fleisher)\, then move inside for a Quaker-style service in the Sanctuary. \nFor over four decades\, Cathy supported and mentored many aspiring artists at Fleisher\, also teaching at the Wayne Art Center and Perkins Center for the Arts. \nTrained at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts\, she worked in a variety of materials including bronze\, clay\, and polyester resin – her prolific output included everything from large sculptures for public commissions to commemorative coins for the Franklin Mint.⁠ \nCathy also taught martial arts classes for decades\, speaking of how karate informed her sculpture practice\, and vice versa: “Sculpture\, karate\, they’re all about forms in space. And there’s a need to keep practicing\, perfecting. It’s a process.”⁠

SUMMARY:One-Session Workshop: Blue Beauty: Cyanotypes
DESCRIPTION:Discover a historic photographic printing technique that you can do in your own backyard! This workshop with instructor Alex Orgera will provide you with a brief introduction to the cyanotype process\, which was discovered by John Herschel in 1842 and used for over a century to reproduce drawings and images (it was especially popular among engineers\, thus the term “blueprint”!). \nYou’ll learn how to prepare your photosensitive material and make prints outside in the sunlight\, using found objects and transparencies as your negatives. The workshop will also explore techniques for printing on fabric\, as well as toning your images to alter their final color.

DESCRIPTION:This one day workshop with instructor Jazmyn Crosby will be an introduction and overview of sound art. Participants will explore a range of listening techniques that will expand into a guided sound walk where we will learn basic recording techniques for field recording. \nFeatured image from Staggered Paths\, a guided augmented reality walking tour by Jazmyn Crosby. Participants were encouraged to use my voice and the video as a map of the Cherry Street Pier and the adjoining Race Street Pier. The video is a time capsule\, the tour focuses on shifting qualities of light\, sound\, and technology through staggered timelines.

DESCRIPTION:Join Philly Queer Life Drawing for an evening of figure drawing in Fleisher’s historic Sanctuary. Drawing stations will be set up throughout the Sanctuary with models taking inspiration from religious tropes and spaces. The evening will be guided by Brielle DuBose with opportunities to experience drawing each model and environment. Bring your favorite mediums and surfaces to work on. The program fee includes two drink tickets and merch will be available for sale. Costumes are encouraged but not required. \nThis is not a queer-only event\, but it is a queer space. Philly Queer Life Drawing seeks to highlight queer\, trans\, POC\, and fat bodies! The program fee goes towards paying the model and covering overhead. \nPhilly Queer Life Drawing is run by Brielle DuBose and De’von Downes who are non-binary black artists and facilitators in Philly. We are dedicated to building community and creating spaces where joy can be abundant.
