SUMMARY:MomMom Glaze Workshop: Holiday Trees (Friday)
DESCRIPTION:Join South Philly Time Capsule’s Sue Liedke for a MomMom Glaze Workshop inspired by holiday traditions of yesteryear. For each registration\, participants will receive a bisque-fired holiday tree\, cast from vintage molds. This workshop will feature a choice of either a 10″ or 16″ inch tree. To select a 16″ tree\, please add the “additional item” during registration. \nParticipants will be able to decorate their choice using a variety of glazes. Following the workshop\, we’ll fire your work and it will be ready for pick up at Fleisher by December 6. This is an all ages program. All supplies are provided\, including light kits\, and no art-making experience is required. \nMomMom Craft Night is an ongoing program series curated by Sue Liedke that celebrates nostalgic kitschy crafts from a bygone era. Designed for makers and novices alike\, these informal gatherings are designed to bring the neighborhood together. Sue curates South Philly Time Capsule which celebrates the vintage interiors of South Philly. \n

If you join this 1.5-mile walking tour of Center City you’ll find a film history as old as the medium itself. Our stops on the tour will focus on more independent\, underrecognized films in the Philadelphia region while also paying homage to the early inventors of the craft. After finding all the different spots committed to celluloid\, the experience will culminate in a brief tour of the Philadelphia Film Center and a short “philm” screening to match! Our goal for the day is to examine and celebrate the film industry of the city’s past\, present\, and future.

SUMMARY:Etched Earrings
DESCRIPTION:Draw on metal and create unique earrings in this one-time workshop well suited for beginners and advanced students alike. Students will take a design of their own and using a non-toxic saltwater etching technique\, etch the design into the surface of sheet metal. After etching\, students will solder earring posts to the backs of their designs. Using a patina\, students will then darken the metal and sand back the highpoints to make their design pop. Students will create a finished set of earrings they can take home at the end of the workshop. This workshop could be a good fit for those interested in 2D artmaking and want an introduction into a handful of basic metalsmithing processes. \n  \nSupplies: \n• Please bring a notepad and something to write with.\n• It is recommended that you come with drawings\, shapes\, or simple photo tracings you would want to use as imagery for your earrings\, fitting within the dimensions of 1”x2” or smaller.\n• All supplies are included with enrollment

DESCRIPTION:This stained glass workshop will be for beginning and advanced students. Learner’s will be encouraged to bring ideas for small two and three dimensional projects and pre-made designs can also be provided. Examples include mirror frames\, votive candle holders\, jewelry\, and sculptural objects all of which can include ceramic and metal items other that could be included in the project. Glass cutting and assembly techniques will be demonstrated and practiced resulting in a finished project. Glass concepts and historical information will be discussed throughout. All levels welcome!
