SUMMARY:Weaving in the New Year at Pendle Hill (five-day workshop)
DESCRIPTION:Step into a mindful and creative experience learning how to weave in the New-Year with this multi day retreat experience at Pendle Hill led by Fleisher instructor Anna Bockrath. Participants will meet in the Pendle Hill studio to receive hands-on instruction on both large and small frame looms\, learning weaving techniques woven with mindfulness—breath work\, intention setting\, and reflective pauses that enrich both mind and hand. After morning instruction\, participants are welcome to use the studio\, until 8pm each day giving you ample time to weave\, stroll the serene grounds\, journal\, or simply let your experience settle in the quiet beauty of Pendle Hill. The workshop includes lunch each day\, and learning materials are provided. Instructor Anna Bockrath will also be available to consult with participants about additional yarns or tools suited to specific ideas as needed. \nThose seeking a deeper retreat experience can make this a creative residency by booking lodging at pendlehill.org. \n  \nDaily Schedule \nClass: 9am – 12pm\nLunch: 12pm – 1pm\nOpen Studio: 1pm – 8pm \n  \nThis class is taking place at Pendle Hill. DESCRIPTION:In this workshop we’ll be looking the use of art and visuals to further queer activism throughout the history of the LGBTQ rights movement. Then\, students will have the opportunity to spread their own message with supplies to make zines and posters. \nQueer Makers is a space for queer and ally artists to come together\, learn\, discuss\, and create! In this series of workshops\, join student teaching artist Kieran Becker for a fun presentation on artists– historical and contemporary– who have used art to express their queer identity or highlight queer issues\, followed by group discussion and responsive artmaking activity. SUMMARY:12 Hour Photo: Black & White Darkroom Marathon (one-day workshop)
DESCRIPTION:Did you ever wish you’d learned to develop and print black-and-white film and photographs in the darkroom\, but just never had the time? Are you experienced with darkroom photography\, but looking for a new challenge? Join Fleisher faculty Ahmed Salvador for this workshop. \nThere are no prerequisites for this offering\, which is open to students at all levels. \nBeginners will learn all the basic skills including:\n1. How to operate your 35mm camera settings for greater control\n2. How to develop black-and-white film\, and how to print from negatives\n3. How to print and manipulate black-and-white images in the darkroom \nStudents with more experience will work alongside the instructor to finesse their prints with knowledge of printing techniques such as dodging and burning\, using contrast filters\, etc. \nAccessibility Note: This studio has partial stair access. DESCRIPTION:Join Leeway x Fleisher Visual Artist-in-Residence Candy Alexandra González @candy_alexandra1 on Sunday\, January 25th from 1-2:30pm for the culminating event in the “Rituals for Reclamation” series\, which was a multidisciplinary artistic exploration of maize and queerness. \n​This artist talk is the final ritual of Rituals for Reclamation\, a three part project supported by the Leeway x Fleisher Visual Artist-In-Residence program that sought to hold space for sapphic queers of color to engage in the reclamation of the term “tortillera”\, which has historically been a derogatory term used to denote lesbianism. This artist talk will serve as a reflection on the first two rituals of the project and an invitation to the broader community to learn about this body of work. \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:Black & White Comedy in a Color World: The Plot Against Harry
DESCRIPTION:Although color film technology was available since the early 1930s\, black & white and color films both co-existed in theaters until color would dominate filmmaking by the early 1970s. Yet monochrome film would still occasionally be used for feature films\, resulting in some of the most-esteemed titles of the last fifty years (RAGING BULL\, SCHINDLER’S LIST & ERASERHEAD among them). \nWhile in modern times black & white is often deployed to suggest past periods or austere seriousness\, some of the color era’s most-striking comedies have also been shot in the process. We’ll discuss what black & white brings to the comic tone of these films as well as examine the careers and artistic interests of the directors and their collaborators. Following the films we’ll enjoy an open class discussion. \nThis week\, we’ll be screening THE PLOT AGAINST HARRY (1971\, dir.
