SUMMARY:jumpstART: One of a Kind Screenprint
DESCRIPTION:Explore and experiment with the immediacy of this one of a kind screenprinting technique. Printed images will be made using Caran D’Ache water-soluble crayons and soft graphite to create layers of drawings and textures. Explore the many different effects possible achieved with simple\, freeing and direct techniques. You do not need to have a plan for an image\, as it is possible to experiment with the materials and our extensive collection of textures that we use for rubbings directly on the screen. Of course\, if you have some ideas in mind please bring in sketches or images to use for source material. \nAll supplies are included with enrollment.

Rooted in their own lifelong experiences in the arts\, from Ellie’s early start in photography to Jeff’s musical upbringing\, their foundation is dedicated to expanding access to creative opportunities for young people across Philadelphia. Together\, they champion creativity as a vital force for confidence\, innovation\, and possibility. \nThe evening will feature signature cocktails and drinks\, with catering by 12th Street\, alongside a vibrant lineup of interactive art experiences. Guests can enjoy nostalgic dessert decorating with Mallory Valvano of Party Girl Bake Club; watch Teva Dang create an original illustration inspired by Fleisher’s Creative Youth programs\, printed live on take home pennants; and sit for comic style portraits by Pat Aulisio featuring attendees and their favorite childhood characters. This year\, we’re partnering with Fleisher’s El Mercado Cultural initiative. El Mercado will take place outdoors in the parking lot\, while Made at Fleisher will be held indoors in the Sanctuary. Together\, these events will create a seamless flow between spaces and help attract a broader audience. \nEL MERCADO CULTURAL is a grant-funded program organized by Fleisher Art Memorial to encourage the Latinx community’s participation in commerce and the arts through cultural markets. Are you experienced with darkroom photography\, but looking for a new challenge? Join Fleisher faculty Ahmed Salvador for this workshop. There are no prerequisites for this offering\, which is open to students at all levels. \nBeginners will learn all the basic skills including:\n– How to operate your 35mm camera settings for greater control\n– How to develop black-and-white film\, and how to print from negatives\n– How to print and manipulate black-and-white images in the darkroom \nStudents with more experience will work alongside the instructor to finesse their prints with knowledge of printing techniques such as dodging and burning\, using contrast filters\, etc. \nAccessibility Note: This studio has partial stair access. The main workspace is reachable via an alternate entrance\, but some areas require stairs. Please contact adulteducation@fleisher.org to discuss accommodations.

SUMMARY:Jewelry Workshop: Etched Earrings
DESCRIPTION:Draw on metal and create unique earrings in this one-time workshop well suited for beginners and advanced students alike. Students will take a design of their own and using a non-toxic saltwater etching technique\, etch the design into the surface of sheet metal. After etching\, students will solder earring posts to the backs of their designs. Using a patina\, students will then darken the metal and sand back the highpoints to make their design pop. Students will create a finished set of earrings they can take home at the end of the workshop. This workshop could be a good fit for those interested in 2D artmaking and want an introduction into a handful of basic metalsmithing processes. \nAccessibility Note: This studio has partial stair access.
