SUMMARY:JumpstART: One of a Kind Screenprint
DESCRIPTION:Explore and experiment with the immediacy of this one of a kind screenprinting technique. Printed images will be made using Caran D’Ache water-soluble crayons and soft graphite to create layers of drawings and textures. Explore the many different effects possible achieved with simple\, freeing and direct techniques. You do not need to have a plan for an image\, as it is possible to experiment with the materials and our extensive collection of textures that we use for rubbings directly on the screen. Of course\, if you have some ideas in mind please bring in sketches or images to use for source material.

DESCRIPTION:Get seduced by the magic of black and white darkroom photography. You’ll explore the historic photographic technique of the photogram\, in which placing objects on light-sensitive paper can create rich and elaborate images. You’ll learn developing techniques and will walk away with several 8×10″ photograms of your very own. Bring several small objects that you can work into a composition and have an interesting contour. Translucent fabric or papers with interesting patterns\, like lace or mesh\, also work well with the process.

SUMMARY:Workshop: Ceramics: Raku (3 Day + Firing)
DESCRIPTION:In this special workshop you will explore raku\, an exciting and instinctive rapid firing process. Bisque work is taken from the kiln glowing red hot and vessels or sculptures are placed into organic matter and starved of oxygen to create vibrant colors and surface effects within the glaze and clay. In the studio\, students will explore a variety of techniques to create thrown and hand built forms. Whether you work with vessels or sculpture\, students will explore how different techniques\, including raku\, can make the surface of your work come alive. This immersive will be useful to the advanced beginner as well as more experienced students. Experienced students are encouraged to contact the Manager of Adult Education at adulteducation@fleisher.org to connect with the instructor about additional materials\, instructions\, or questions. \nClass will meet Monday\, 11/16 – Wednesday\, 11/18 from 1 to 4pm in Fleisher’s Ceramic Studio to create thrown and hand built forms for the raku firing. There will be two additional Open Studio days to finish work (no new work should be made on these days). Open Studio is scheduled for Thursday\, 11/19 and Friday\, 11/20 from 1 to 4 pm. All work must be on the shelf for bisque firing by 4pm Friday\, 11/20. Students are allowed up to 5 pieces in the raku firing. If students make additional work\, it can be glazed and fired through Fleisher during open studio hours (see firing schedule below). \nRaku Firing will take place on Sunday\, 12/6 (rain date 12/13) at Allens Lane Art Center from 10am to 4pm. Students are responsible for their own transportation to Allens Lane\, artwork will be transported by Fleisher. All work will be glazed on-site at Allens Lane Art Center during the Raku Firing session.
