DESCRIPTION:Join us for this special opportunity to learn all about loom weaving at a variety of scales with artist Lena Kolb! Participants will learn about a range of weaving materials\, techniques\, and histories. All who join will have the chance to create original works and try their hands at weaving on one of Fleisher’s long-stored-away floor looms! \nAll levels are welcome. Whether you are new to weaving\, up for a refresher\, or an experienced fiber artist excited to try something new at Fleisher\, this immersive workshop and open studio is for you. \nWhat You Will Learn:\n– Weaving techniques\, terminology\, and history\n– How to make a small frame loom\n– How to dress and use a large floor loom \nThe class will meet for instruction on six mornings over the course of the two weeks with open studio time between class sessions. DESCRIPTION:Here is your chance to have a hands-on immersion into instant filmmaking! In two 8-hour sessions\, you will learn the essentials of how to use a Super 8 movie camera\, film in the colorful environs of South Philadelphia\, and hand develop the roll! \nBut\, that’s not all! The next day\, we will view the films and later print images of individual still frames and strips from them! There are no prerequisites for this offering\, which is open to students at all levels. \nWhat You Will Learn:\n– The essential skills of how to use a Super 8 camera (which will be provided\, but feel free to bring your working camera) including getting the right exposure settings.\n– How to develop their own film in a quick and hands-on way.\n– A demo on color photograms: an image made without a camera by placing objects directly onto the surface of photographic paper and then exposing it to light.\n– Furthering the photogram lesson\, students will print images utilizing the RA-4 reversal technique- in a color darkroom\, a rare opportunity. The class will print stills or strips from their films.

DESCRIPTION:Did you ever wish you’d learned to develop and print black-and-white film and photographs in the darkroom\, but just never had the time? Are you experienced with darkroom photography\, but looking for a new challenge? Join Fleisher faculty Ahmed Salvador for this 12-hr marathon! There are no prerequisites for this offering\, which is open to students at all levels. \nWhat You Will Learn:\n– How to operate your 35mm camera settings for greater control\n– How to develop black-and-white film\, and how to print from negatives\n– How to print and manipulate black-and-white images in the darkroom| \nStudents with more experience will work alongside the instructor to finesse their prints with knowledge of printing techniques such as dodging and burning\, using contrast filters\, etc.
