Día de los Muertos Celebration and Procession

Join Fleisher and the official Día de los Muertos committee La Calaca Flaca (Skinny Skeleton) as we hold our 10th annual Día de los Muertos celebration and procession. On this special day, join the community for a procession through South Philadelphia, ending in Fleisher’s outdoor space. La Ofrenda (the community’s offering) will continue to be displayed in our Sanctuary space.

To commemorate this milestone, La Calaca Flaca invited artist Mauricio Pérez to help us create a Day of the Dead through the perspective of his Colombian heritage and the realm of the indigenous Muiscas. The theme this year will revolve around La Leyenda de El Dorado (El Dorado Legend) and La Balsa Muisca (Muisca Raft). Mauricio will lead the installation of La Ofrenda with help from the community and everyone is invited to contribute. The celebrations will include music, dance, food, La Feria de los Niños (children’s fair), El Mercado Cultural and our famous La Calacleta (Day of the Dead official altar on wheels). This celebration is free and open to the public!

Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, has been observed across Latin America for centuries as a day to honor and celebrate the lives of people who we have lost.
