SUMMARY:Fleisher From a Distance: Wind Challenge Edition with Matthew Borgen
DESCRIPTION:While Fleisher’s exhibitions are on pause\, join us online on Mondays for compelling conversations with past and present Wind Challenge artists. Established in 1978\, the Wind Challenge Exhibition Series has enriched the lives of countless visitors and introduced audiences to contemporary art created by the region’s emerging artists. The Wind Challenge Exhibition Series is made possible thanks to generous support from the Dina Wind Art Foundation and Fleisher members. \nMatthew Borgen\, a 2018 Wind Challenge artist\, utilizes imagery from comic books in combination with art historical and other popular culture references to deconstruct and satirize spaces of authority\, privilege\, and other long-held\, and seemingly intractable\, social ideas or narratives. \nBorgen is a native of Akron\, OH. Since moving to Philadelphia in 2003 Borgen has presented his work in regional venues including The Woodmere Art Museum; The Abington Art Center; The Barbara Crawford Gallery at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy; InLiquid Gallery; and the Center for Contemporary Art\, Bedminster\, NJ. \nNationally he has been included in exhibitions at The Urban Institute for Contemporary Art\, Grand Rapids\, Michigan; The 621 Gallery\, Tallahassee\, Florida; The Arlington Center for the Arts\, Arlington\, Massachusetts; H Gallery\, Ventura California: and Target Gallery\, Alexandria Virginia. \nBorgen has served as Exhibitions Coordinator for Arcadia University since 2012. His curatorial projects include exhibitions of preparatory sketches by muralist David Guinn\, a survey of the career of mid-20th-century artist John Hathaway\, and a presentation of proofs and drawings related to the lithographs of Benton Spruance. Most recently\, Borgen organized solo exhibitions of the works of photographer Tamsen Wojtanowski and printmaker Jennifer Manzella. \nArtist website:\nmatthewborgen.com \nThis event is open to the public with a suggested donation of $10 but is limited to a maximum number of 100 participants. Advanced registration is required. The event will be hosted through Zoom\, which can be accessed on desktop and laptop computers\, as well as mobile devices. We highly recommend downloading the Zoom app to your device in advance. You will receive a URL to join the event after you complete the registration process.
