Basic Drawing

Come learn how to observe and draw objects from life, in a realistic style. In this workshop your instructor will provide exercises which will offer you a step-by-step approach to learn observational drawing. Working in pencil and charcoal, you will learn skills to help you create a successful basic drawing.

Please note: this is an 8 session course. Fleisher will be closed on January 17 and February 21 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day and President’s Day.

What you will learn:

  • To make accurate contour line drawings of objects

  • To identify forms and shapes

  • To understand the importance of object relationships

  • A special technique to establish scale and other relationships between objects

Required supplies:

  • Drawing paper pad 14×17 inches

  • Newsprint pad 18×24 inches

  • Kneaded eraser

  • Mars plastic eraser

  • Pencil sharpener

  • Graphite pencils, 1 each 2B, 4B, and 6B

  • Charcoal pencils, one each medium and soft

  • Compressed charcoal, soft (2 to 4 sticks)

  • Vine charcoal, soft (small pack of sticks)

  • Ruler
