Come learn the basic techniques of hand-building and sculptural design in ceramics. Each session will include time for instruction, and for practicing new techniques. Concepts and theories of 3D and 2D design will be covered along with ideas of form and function. Let your hands learn to do whatever your mind can dream up!

To make our classes and workshops accessible to everyone, Fleisher offers tuition assistance every term so that everyone can join our creative community. We have recently streamlined the application process, making it even quicker and easier. Tuition assistance applications can be completed once registration is open by clicking here. The deadline to apply for summer term assistance is Friday, May 27th. Tuition assistance notifications will be sent by Wednesday, June 1st.

Basic techniques for hand-building: pinch, coil, soft slab, and hard slab construction; scoring; carving
Sculptural concepts including additive and reductive processes
Basic glaze and underglaze techniques

Hard fettling knife
1/4-inch inexpensive brush for applying slip
1-inch soft brush for glaze
Soft rubber rib/scraper
Wooden knife tool
Clay is available for purchase online or at Fleisher’s front desk. No outside clay is permitted.
