Elements of Painting (Session Three)
Discover the art of oil painting or continue to improve your skills in this all levels class. Through experimentation, students will be introduced to composition, color mixing, paint application, and the discovery form. Explore the process of developing as a painter and an image maker while receiving plenty of individual guidance and direction from the instructor.
What you will learn:
The use of a process for the development of an idea.
The creative function of a viewfinder as visual aide for the discovery of purpose.
Selecting a medium.
Understanding usage of color, warm and cool aspects, tone, tints, and saturated color, blending color, wet and dry color.
Recognizing execution to acquire harmony and unity.
Supplies for the first class:
Sketchbook (medium sized or 11” x 14” suggested)
Sharpie – twin points, fine point
Additional supplies, to be discussed at the first class:
Paper painting palette
Turpentine – ultra fine
Brushes: hog hair – two #4, two #6 and one #8
Two cotton rags
Two small jars with lids
Canvas (stretched) – 18×22”* or 24×36”
Paint: Titanium White, Vandyke Brown, Magenta, Viridian Green, Cobalt Blue, Cadmium Yellow Light, Cadmium Red, Ultramarine Blue, Ivory Black.*
Acrylic for lean under-paining: yellow ochre, burnt sienna, raw umber, white
