Embroidery

If you love to draw and paint but are ready for a new medium, join us for this short adventure into fiber arts! Learn how to stitch a range of embroidery stitches for line drawing or thread painting, and design a personal work of art using fabric, needle, and thread.

What you will learn:

  • Students will be able to stitch a variety of line and fill stitches

  • Students will be able to translate a photo or sketch into an embroidered artwork, selecting stitches for various visual effects

  • Students will be able to prepare fabrics and thread for embroidery

Required supplies:

  • A quarter yard of plain-colored plainweave fabric (preferably cotton or linen broadcloth)

  • 5-10 skeins of embroidery floss or cotton perle

  • 6 inch or 8inch embroidery hoop, embroidery needles

  • Pencil

  • Scissors

  • Sketchbook or resource images for planning
