Fiber Arts: Felting (four-session workshop)

This class will cover both needle and wet felting. We will use mostly wool but will also incorporate other natural fibers, fabric, and found objects. No previous fibers experience is necessary. Students will learn to make wearable items and felted sculpture.

This will be a social working environment. The first 30-45 minutes of each class with be dedicated to demonstration and discussion. The rest of class time will be for individual work on projects and to practice techniques.

What you will learn:

  • Needle felting

  • Wet felting flat

  • Wet felting 3D

  • Incorporating other materials

Required supplies:

  • 2” thick foam insulation board – 12” x 12” per person

  • Thick plastic garbage bags – one per person

  • Bubble wrap – 24” x 24” per person

  • Plastic window screen – Two 24”x24” pieces per person

  • Two gallons unscented liquid handsoap

  • Lots of cheap yarn (it will be covered with roving so it can be ugly/lumpy as long as it’s bulky.
