First Steps to Drawing

Anyone can learn to draw, including YOU! This course is designed for students who are just starting out, or who have never drawn before. You will be introduced to key techniques that are necessary to the discipline of Drawing such as line quality, measuring negative space and proportions, gauging measurements using your pencil, picture plane and how to use a viewfinder while working from flat images, photographs, single objects and the still life.

Participants must have a valid Fleisher membership. Please note that our tuition-free classes for adults fill very quickly. Special notes:
This is an online class hosted through Zoom. We recommend that you download the free Zoom application on your computer, phone, or tablet in advance of the first class. You will receive a confirmation email containing a link to join the course via Zoom. The same link will be used each week.

Required supplies:

  • Drawing paper pad

  • Kneaded eraser

  • Mars Plastic or Pink Pearl eraser

  • Pencil sharpener

  • Graphite pencils, 1 each 2B and 4B

  • Glue stick

  • Jumbo soft vine charcoal
