Long Pose Figure Painting (five-day immersive workshop)

The intention of this course is to explore in depth the various stage of the painting. Working with the same model and same pose for 5 days will give you an opportunity to study in depth the various stages of the painting. We will work on white canvas studying the function of drawing and values in a composition. Each day will have an opportunity to study in depth the various stages of the development of a painting. You will learn using the most valuable tools of an artist: “Relationship “ of colors, values, proportions, how the surrounding space influences the focal point, relationships of diverse consistency of the paint, and directional strokes.

What you will learn:

  • “Relationship” of colors warm and cool colors, saturated and dull colors, Light and Dark. values as a means to create light and space in your paintings.

  • How the surrounding space influences the focal point

  • The importance of composition

  • Relationship of diverse consistency of the paint, directional strokes, painting application and etc.

Required supplies:

  • Palette for mixing colors

  • Soft and medium soft brushes for working on a smooth panel or canvas

  • Palette knife

  • Turpenoid or odorless turpentine

  • Windsor & Newton “Original Liquin” as medium

  • Paper towels or rags to clean brushes

  • Cardboard tray to transport wet paintings

  • Pencil and paper to take notes

  • CANVAS OR PANEL SIZE: no smaller than 18”x20” no bigger than 28”x30”

  • Giovanni’s suggested color Palette: Winton/Windsor & Newton colors (40 ml tube) as follows: Cadmium Yellow Light, Indian Yellow, Cadmium Orange, Cadmium Red Medium, Permanent Alazarin Crimson, Dioxazine Purple, French Ultramarine, Cerulean Blue hue, Titanium White (150 ml), Ivory Black, Viridian Green, Chromium Green, Yellow Ochre, Raw Sienna, Indian Red, Burnt Sienna, Raw Umber. If you already have a color palette and brushes that you are
    familiar and works for you, please bring your own familiar materials.
