Memento Books (four-session workshop)

Photo books and albums have been the ideal way to treasure keepsakes since their invention. We will explore book structures that compensate and/or expand for the addition of personal items.

What you will learn:

  • Sources for materials, tools, and instructional guidance for future learning

  • The basic hand skills of cutting, folding and sewing various materials

  • Different papers and other materials used in bookbinding

  • Several different types of book structures that are ideal for keep photographs and other 2-D items

Required Supplies

  • Bone folder

  • Olfa cutting knife (or X-acto) with extra blades

  • Scissors

  • Awl or thin needle tool (as used for clay)

  • Self healing cutting mat

  • Glue stick

  • Double stick tape

  • Metal ruler

  • Triangle

  • Pencil

  • White eraser

  • Binder clips

  • Card stock

  • Bookcloth

  • Ribbon (if you have some)

  • Decorative paper

  • Stiff bristle brush for gluing (at least 1-inch can be synthetic)

  • Photos and other 2-D to include in the sample books you make in class
