Mosaics (six-session workshop)

This is your introduction to the techniques, history, and aesthetics of decorative and functional mosaics. You may use many mosaic materials, including pebbles, stained glass, marble, ceramic plates and tiles, smalti, and paper to create finished pieces. The emphasis will be on design, pattern, construction, and finished presentation.

Your instructor will provide lots of useful information about historical and contemporary mosaic works, along with where to source materials and specialized tools, for your specific projects.

Special notes:
This is an in-person class that will take place in our Mosaics Studio with strict social distancing protocols and a maximum of 6 students in the space. Students will be required to wear masks for the entire duration of the class. Please see our COVID-19 community safety policies.

Tuition Assistance is Available
To make our classes and workshops accessible to everyone, Fleisher offers tuition assistance every term so that everyone can join our creative community. We have recently streamlined the application process, making it even quicker and easier. Tuition assistance applications can be completed once registration is open by clicking here. The deadline to apply is Friday, May 28.

Required supplies:

  • Begin the term with a notebook, pencil, some colored paper (magazines will be fine – just make sure you have some solid colors), scissors, and glue (a glue stick is a neat option). The instructor will discuss which tools are best for each project on the first night of class.

  • Depending on the project chosen you may need a substrate, something to glue down, the proper adhesive for the job, a few tools, and maybe grout. We will cover the options during the first class.
