Sketching Animals at the Philadelphia Zoo (four-session immersive workshop)

Come to the Philadelphia Zoo and discover the many gifts of drawing animals from life in this four-day intensive workshop. You will experiment with a variety of dry media and techniques as you refine the practice of gesture drawing and sketching from life. You will learn to effectively identify and capture the essence of an animal, as well as discern the boney landmarks and comparative anatomy of a variety of animals – all in a friendly and upbeat environment!

Admission to the Zoo is included in the price of the workshop, but be advised that parking costs are not included.

Special notes:
This is an in-person, off site course that will take place at the Philadelphia Zoo. The instructor will communicate the meeting location with students via email before the start of the workshop. We will practice social distancing during class.

Required supplies:

  • Large newsprint pad

  • Vine charcoal

  • Gray, white conte crayon

  • One sheet of toned pastel paper (any medium to dark tone)

  • Soft-medium graphite pencil (HB, 4B or higher)

  • Color pencils or pastels (optional)
