Storytelling and Collage (four-day immersive workshop)

In this course, students will be introduced to collage making using both traditional and contemporary techniques. Taking inspiration from reference material, observation, and imagination students will explore storytelling using paper as their primary medium. Principles taught in this course are composition, shape, and color. This interactive class is structured for all skill levels.

Please note: This is a 4-day immersive workshop. Class will not meet on Thursday, July 14.

What you will learn:

  • How to create a collage inspired by pattern and design

  • How to create a composition using discarded 2-D materials

  • How to create a scenic composition

Required supplies:

  • Chipboard or Heavyweight paper – 18 x 24 inches

  • Paper materials and other mediums used to make collage is open to individual preference

  • Pencil (or any mark making utensil)

  • Sketchbook

  • Construction paper (multi-color)

  • Masking tape (multiple widths recommended)

  • Spray adhesive

  • Matte medium

  • Glue

  • Catalyst blade

  • Roller

  • Ruler

  • X-acto knife
