Winter 2022 Community Safety Policies
[posted 12/21/20; updated 12/31/2021]
We are looking forward to welcoming our community back for the winter term at Fleisher this January.
In light of the current wave of COVID-19 cases in the city of Philadelphia, Fleisher will be postponing all of our educational and cultural programs by two weeks. Our lobby and galleries will remain closed through Friday, January 14th, and we will reopen to the public for the start of the winter term on Tuesday, January 18th (after observing Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, January 17th). The health and safety of our community is our number one priority while the Omicron variant continues to surge throughout the region. We hope this pause will help protect students, faculty, and staff while reducing the rate of COVID-19 transmission.
The Adult Winter Term will now begin on January 18th and will end on March 25th. The Children and Youth Saturday program will begin on January 22nd and will conclude on March 26th. Please note that our online classes will continue as scheduled, starting on January 3rd.
We have also made some important updates to our community safety policies. We will be requiring all eligible students and visitors (18+ years of age) to receive their booster shot before returning to Fleisher in the new year.
Youth must have received their first COVID-19 vaccine in order to enter the building. All students ages 5-18 are now required to show proof of vaccination (at least 1 shot) in order to participate in on-site programming.
We are following the CDC, City of Philadelphia and Philadelphia School District guidelines and recommendations in making our decisions about programs and our community guidelines. Learn more about our updated policies and booster resources below. Questions or concerns can be directed to Vita Litvak, Director of Education, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I’m already vaccinated. Why do I need a booster shot?
Although COVID-19 vaccines remain effective in preventing severe cases and hospitalizations, recent data has suggested that the vaccines become less effective over time. Getting a booster substantially increases your body’s protection against COVID, including against the delta and omicron variants.
Am I eligible for a booster?
You are eligible for a booster if it has been at least six months since you received your second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or if it has been at least two months since you received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
Which booster shot should I get?
You have choices in what type of booster shot to get, but all of them will give you greater protection from the new omicron variant as our region faces another surge. Read the CDC’s guide for information about booster eligibility and choosing a type of shot.
Where can I get my booster?
Boosters are readily available at local pharmacies, and we encourage you to get vaccinated at a convenient location near you.
What type of mask would you recommend?
We recommend visiting this CDC page outlining the different types of masks and respirators you can currently use to protect yourself and others from getting and spreading COVID-19, including tips on ways to secure a better fit.
What to expect when you arrive
Starting January 2022, we will require proof of vaccination and booster to enter our buildings from visitors and students ages 18 and over. For youth ages 5 and up, we will also require proof of vaccination (at least one shot) upon entry. Please have your vaccination card in hand. We will also accept images of a current vaccination card on your phone.
If you were vaccinated in Philadelphia and your vaccine card is either lost or damaged, contact the City of Philadelphia Health Department at 215-685-5488 or email them at email@example.com and they will supply a replacement.
Students are asked to refrain from entering the building until ten minutes before their registered time.
In preparation for the winter term, our studio and class capacity has been reduced by approximately 30% to enable social distancing.
Our current studio capacity is as follows:
- Ceramics: twelve students and one teacher or monitor
- Painting & drawing: twelve students and one teacher and model
- Jewelry: six students and one teacher or monitor
- Printmaking, etching: six students and one teacher or monitor
- Printmaking, lithography: six students and one teacher
- Screenprint: six students and one teacher
- Darkroom: six students and one teacher or monitor
- Digital Studio: eight students and one teacher

If you receive a positive COVID-19 test, please contact Vita Litvak, Director of Education, at firstname.lastname@example.org. If applicable, we will notify local public health officials, and share with them any information that will aide their efforts in contact tracing. The individual identity of the person diagnosed with COVID-19 will remain anonymous. Upon receiving news of a positive COVID-19 test, Fleisher may close briefly for deep cleaning and disinfection. Any closures or disruption will be announced via email.
After testing positive for COVID-19, you will need a negative test result before returning onsite. Send your test results to Vita (Director of Education, email@example.com) or Ro (Associate Director for Youth and Family Programming, firstname.lastname@example.org). If this presents significant difficulty for you or your family, please let us know and we will work with you on alternatives.
