ARTZ at Fleisher

ARTZ at Fleisher is a partnership between ARTZ Philadelphia and Fleisher Art memorial that provides free monthly art experiences for people living with dementia and their caregivers, made possible by the Arleen Weinstein Fund for Creative Aging. These sessions take place in Fleisher’s Dene M. Louchheim Galleries.

ARTZ Philadelphia partners with cultural venues throughout Greater Philadelphia to offer informal, highly interactive arts-based conversation programs for people living with dementia and those they love. Through the vehicle of arts-based conversation, facilitated programs enhance the self-esteem of those participating (with and without dementia) and help to build a new communities of friends.

Programs are free of charge, but pre-registration is required to ensure an intimate and comfortable experience for all. Click here to register for this session.

About the facilitator:
Susan Shifrin, executive director of Artz Philly, is an art historian, curator, and educator by training. She received her Ph.D. from Bryn Mawr College and has worked at museums up and down the East Coast. She was inspired to start ARTZ Philadelphia after having hosted programs for visitors with dementia. She was moved as she saw them come to life in the galleries, talking about art with each other, their caregivers and museum staff. Art became their vehicle for self-expression, interaction, creativity, mutual respect, and joy. Shifrin publishes on the intersections of the arts and dementia and has spoken and keynoted at professional conferences both in the United States and abroad.
