Pop Arts: Stop-Motion Animation (grades 6-8)

Using household materials, paint markers, and carving tools, we will create a simple animation with a free user-friendly app called GIF Maker – IMGPlay. The instructor will be using a piece of produce such as an apple, eggplant, or potato; participants can use any similar food item or a blank metal can, paper bag, or piece of paper to complete the workshop. We will discuss the uses of animation from the fine arts to marketing to anime. Then we’ll learn how to create simple abstract forms – and make one object morph into another!

Instructor: Daisy Diamond

Required supplies:
Smartphone or tablet
Phone camera stand/tripod (this can be created using a box, a stack of books, or other objects at home)
Vegetable (like an eggplant, but anything round works)
Markers
Colored pencils, pencils, crayons, paper, scissors, glue
OPTIONAL: carving tool, small miscellaneous objects
