Fleisher From a Distance: Painting Abstractly Demonstration with Mostafa Darwish

Step into the world of abstract painting. Teaching artist Mostafa Darwish will be performing a live painting demonstration from a series that he is currently working on. The demonstration will touch on fundamentals and concepts behind abstraction in art, what abstraction could mean for each artist, and ways of navigating and applying those concepts into one’s practice regardless of mediums.

Mostafa immigrated to the United States from Egypt and is currently based in Philadelphia. He graduated in 2016 from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts with a bachelor’s degree and certificate of fine arts in painting. There he was distinguished with the Faculty Award for outstanding growth and community involvement, the Charles Toppan Drawing Award, and the August Cook Prize award for Figurative Drawing. Among other achievements, He is a recent awardee of the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation grant. Mostafa displayed with and curated multiple emerging artist and group exhibitions, most recently We Got Used to New Us in Philadelphia, being awarded an honorarium grant and featured in a publication by WHYY public media. Mostafa’s current work focuses on bringing his own experience of a different culture and exposure into a western environment, contrasting both East and West together to draw attention to political, cultural and societal dissidence.

This demonstration is open to the public with a suggested donation of $10 but is limited to maximum number of 100 participants. Advanced registration is required. The tour will be hosted through Zoom, which can be accessed on desktop and laptop computers, as well as mobile devices. We highly recommend downloading the Zoom app to your device in advance.
