In 1898, Samuel S. Fleisher first extended his invitation for “the world to come and learn art” at the Graphic Sketch Club. Fleisher’s singular vision of high-quality and low-cost art instruction continues uninterrupted at Fleisher Art Memorial, where artists of all backgrounds share in the commonality of the creative experience while studying with a distinguished faculty of working artists.

Program Information

Artists of all backgrounds share in the commonality of the creative experience at Fleisher while studying with a distinguished faculty of working visual artists.

  • Fleisher’s low-cost classes and workshops provide instruction and ways to experiment in numerous mediums. Tuition assistance is available.

Immersives are organized during select times of the year. These advanced offerings are designed to provide artists more time in the studio than a typical class, creating space for artists to explore techniques and new ideas more deeply. Students have increased access to Fleisher studios and resources.

How To Register

For most classes and workshops, Fleisher accepts registrations on a first-come, first-served basis, so early registration is recommended. Waiting lists are established once a class fills, and applicants will be contacted if spaces become available. The best way to register is online, but we are also able to process registrations over the phone (215-922-3456) or in-person at our front desk.

If you aren’t already, please consider becoming a Fleisher member! In addition to sustaining Fleisher’s mission, benefits of membership include a 10% discount on all tuition-based classes; and free general admission to the Philadelphia Museum of Art. A current Fleisher membership is required to register for tuition-free classes.

Tuition And Fees

Unless you are applying for tuition assistance or enrolling in a payment plan, payment of all tuition and fees associated with a class are due in full at the time of registration. To find out the cost of a particular class, check out our course listings. Fleisher is proud to offer transparent pricing structures. Some of the costs associated with our programs and their uses include:

  • Varies depending on the length of the class and covers the salary of the instructor and administrative costs.

  • Vary depending on the class medium, and are used to cover demonstration materials, shared supplies, tools, equipment, and infrastructure costs.

  • Vary depending on whether and for how many sessions a figure model is employed and are used to cover the salary of the model.

Tuition-free Classes

Several of Fleisher’s core classes are offered as tuition-free offerings. While these courses are tuition-free, there may be studio or model fees associated with them. In order to participate in a tuition-free class, students must adhere to the following policies:

  • Be a current Fleisher member.

  • Attend the first two classes of each session. If you cannot attend either the first or second class, please contact Fleisher’s registrar at registration@fleisher.org in advance of the start of the term to hold your spot.

  • Registrations for tuition-free classes are limited to two per student per term. Free classes are designed to be introductory and should not be taken more than twice in succession.

Cancellations

Fleisher reserves the right to cancel any class or workshop due to insufficient enrollment or instructor availability. In the event that Fleisher cancels a class or workshop, registrants will receive full refunds for all related fees paid. Classes missed by individual students are not eligible for reimbursement. Fleisher cannot prorate courses for late registration, withdrawals or missed classes.

In the case that Fleisher must close due to inclement weather or emergency, an update will be posted on our website, and we will make every effort to inform affected students in a timely manner.
