Art-based community engagement is a process of working collaboratively with people affiliated by interests in art, culture, and creativity and a collective desire to make our communities better places for all by developing, sharing, and promoting creative resources.
Each summer, Fleisher and Gapura share space and resources to bring this series of community engagement programs to life, culminating in an outdoor festival hosted at Fleisher. Through this ongoing partnership, Fleisher creates meaningful opportunities to preserve, celebrate, and share Indonesian cultural life and traditions alongside Gapura and Modero & Company, an Indonesian dance troupe.

El Mercado Cultural is an initiative organized by Fleisher Art Memorial to encourage the Latinx community’s participation in commerce and the arts through cultural markets. The focus is to promote multiculturalism by celebrating the heritage and the talent of Latin Americans in Philadelphia. El Mercado accomplishes this by highlighting the arts, artisanal wares and crafts through cultural preservation and exchange in markets where people connect and build relationships and customers.
