Fleisher From a Distance: Drawing Dance with PA Ballet at Cherry St. Pier

Come draw a PA Ballet rehearsal at Cherry Street Pier for the sheer joy of translating the dancers’ energy and grace. Teaching artist John Sevcik will encourage your efforts, both abstract and realistic. Working in a spirit of inspiration employs memory and observation in a fearless way. Come with us to share the excitement of dance, as well as the excitement of drawing or painting the dance and the dancer. Bring materials that you like to draw with, suggested materials include newsprint, various kinds of charcoal, and chalk.

This event is open to the public with a suggested donation of $10 and will be held in person at Cherry Street Pier, located at 121 N. Columbus Ave, Philadelphia. To keep everyone safe, this event will be limited to 12 total registrants. Advanced registration is required.

John Sevcik’s paintings and drawings have been widely exhibited, including shows at HOUSEGallery, the Cheltenham Center for the Arts, Somerville Manning Gallery (Greenville, DE), Newman Galleries (Bryn Mawr and Philadelphia), Kevin Butler Gallery (Martha’s Vineyard, MA), Pringle Gallery (Princeton, NJ), the Youngdam Hanji Art Museum in South Korea, and many others. Additionally, his paintings have twice been featured in the juried periodical New American Paintings.

John brings a wide range of teaching experience to the classroom, having previously taught courses at The Delaware Art Museum, the Cheltenham Center for the Arts, Immaculata University, Delaware College of Art and Design, and Bucks County Community College.
