Fleisher From a Distance: Figure Drawing Demonstration with Jotham Malavé Maldonado

Join us for a figure drawing demonstration led by Fleisher faculty member Jotham Malavé Maldonado that will cover the basic relationship of proportion from the human figure. By simplifying the figure in big geometrical shapes, the complex architecture of the figure can be understood easier. This demonstration will try to strip away the fear of approaching the figure for both artists that practice from life and photography. Bring some paper and a pencil and follow along with the demonstration at home.

Jotham holds an associates degree in technologies of telecommunications from the University of Puerto Rico. He studied at the School of Fine Arts of San Juan, from which he graduated with honors in 2014. Upon completing his MFA at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts he was awarded The Judith McGregor Caldwell Purchase Prize for the academy’s permanent collection and The Woodmere Art Museum Purchase Prize. He has had several exhibitions in museums, such as the Museum of Art of Puerto Rico, Museum of San Juan, Museum of Contemporary Art, and in alternative spaces such as La Productora in Santurce, Puerto Rico. He currently lives between Philadelphia and New York.

This demonstration is open to the public with a suggested donation of $10 but is limited to maximum number of 100 participants. Advanced registration is required. The tour will be hosted through Zoom, which can be accessed on desktop and laptop computers, as well as mobile devices. We highly recommend downloading the Zoom app to your device in advance. You will receive a URL to join the demonstration after you complete the registration process.
